PALM SUNDAY

MUSIC & WORSHIP RESOURCES

Sunday, March 28, 2010

W. Patrick Alston, Sr., Lectionary Team Liturgist

1.  Responsive Reading
Leader: “Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the names of the Lord!” Today we celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
People: Hosanna! Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
Leader: Jesus humbly rode into Jerusalem on a donkey for the Feast of the Passover. The crowds spread their cloaks on the road and others laid palms to prepare the way for his victorious coming.
People: Rejoice! Rejoice! The king arrives!
Leader: Five hundred years before Jesus, the prophet Zechariah told of the Messiah’s coming in humility and peace (Zech 9:9)
People: Rejoice! Rejoice! The triumphant King has come!
Leader: On this journey to liberation from sin, we celebrate Christ’s victories, sorrowfully contemplate his sacrifice, and we revel in his resurrection, the ultimate victory.
Leader: We further pray for black family understanding, wisdom, and power.
People: We remember the long road to freedom that our ancestors traveled, filled with triumphs, death and new life.
Leader: Ride on King Jesus! Ride on conquering king!
People: Jesus came “to bring good news to the poor; to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind; and to let the oppressed go free.” (Lk.4:18)
Leader: With excitement and joy we welcome you into our lives. With loud hosannas we join you on your march toward liberation, justice and love for all people.
ALL: Rejoice! Rejoice! The triumphant King has come!
