Worship Planning Notes

Consider the following suggestions in your worship planning:

  • On this Mission Sunday, sponsor a resource fair before and after service. Encourage your congregation to share their professional and other resources with your church and the community. Choose a ministry from your church that ministers through missions and outreach to select the venue and provide each participant with the essential information needed to share with attendees.

  • Provide a congregational leaflet highlighting local outreach organizations that help in missions and outreach. Ensure that the leaflet provides the essentials for parishioners to contact these organizations. Encourage members of your congregation to execute their responsibility as a missionary by volunteering their time and resources to one of the listed charities.

  • Invite non-citizens, especially persons from Africa to your church.

  • See today’s Lectionary Commentary in the “Helpful Websites” section for a list of organizations that offer mission services around the world.

1. The Call to Worship

Minister: O come let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

Congregation: For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

Minister: In his hands are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.

Congregation: May our mouths be filled with praise and honor all the day long.

Unison: We come this day to worship God.
