Praise the Lord for TheAfricanAmericanLectionary.org! I am a 2008 MDiv graduate still seeking ordination, yet a very, very active member of the Regional Church's Pro-reconciling/Anti-racism team with the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. Your website has been a beautiful addition to my preparing meditations, inviting theological conversations, and forming of prayers. The African American Lectionary is an essential resource tool and an amazing resource for ministers, Sunday School teachers, Bible Study Leaders, Ministry Team organizers. and so much more. Reflecting on scriptures in the historical and contemporary context of African Americans is so sorely needed. In a country where published history, study, and spirituality have been dominated by the systemic nature of white male thinking, planning, acting, and existence, AAL has prophetically become a genesis of new understandings and considerations about who Christ is and how we are to be. The Gospels lack integrity without broader perspectives and considerations of how both culture and religion shape and inform our beliefs and our practices of faith. Thank you AAL for your thoughtful design of a 4th year of Lectionary, your commentaries and resources, and your dialogue corner. Thank you also for challenging ministers and church leaders to develop their own thinking, planning, and ministering through the new compact units that inspire creativity. I tell everyone I know about your website and resources. God bless you and keep up the faithful job you are doing for all people.

I am George Parks, Pastor of the Riverside Missioanry Baptist Church in Memphis,TN. I use the lectionary on a continous basis, especiall for the special days in the chirtsian calemdar and the African American community. The Thanksgiving Lectionary Commenatry of 2009 was a tremendous help. I preached a messaage entitled The Otherside of Thanksgiving from Job 1. The commentary from Dr. Kenyatta Gilbert, who happened to be my homiletics professor at Howard Divinity, was a blessing and the message was a blessing to the Riverside family. I encourge any minister who desires to be exposed to the greatest minds and the unique nuances of the black church to use the Lectionary on a continous basis. Be encouraged!

I struggle from week to week to find relevant yet thought provoking Calls to Worship and Responsive Readings as I prepare the liturgy. The A-A Lectionary is an awesome and convenient resource that cuts my liturgy prep time and allows me more time to focus on the proclamation preparation. Thanks to the staff and contributors. May God continue to bless you as you bless others like me.

I am the chaplain at a long term care community in Topeka, KS. The Lectionary is so amazing and invaluable to me and my ministry. Thank you so much for the image of Ash Wednesday. We used it for our Ash Wednesday service and the residents loved it. This is only one of the many beneficial aspects of the Lectionary.

I am serving as a pastoral intern at Cherokee Park United Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. In preparation for preaching on January 2nd for Epiphany Sunday, I consulted the African American Lectionary. The materials from AAL helped me in several ways. First, the lectionary commentaries presented helpful background and exegesis for my sermon. Although AAL does not follow the Revised Common Lectionary, the search feature on the site allowed me to locate applicable material in the archive. In particular, I appreciated Bernice Johnson Reagon's cultural resource on Epiphany and Holy Communion as well as the suggestion to consult specific pages of True to Our Native Land and the Out in Scripture website. Moreover, I liked Rev. Parker's suggestions for sermon titles and moves/points in the sermon. While I did not use the titles or moves, it helped me develop the sermon and I did use his suggestions for the celebration. In addition, the worship resources helped me to plan the liturgy through identifying hymns and other music for the service. I used the suggestions of This Little Light of Mine and We Three Kings of Orient Are. Thank you TAAL for helping me once again.
